‘I Don’t Need a Title!’ — Godfrey Osotsi Fires Back After ODM Ouster

Godfrey Osotsi has downplayed his removal from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership, maintaining that political relevance is not defined by titles but by influence and connection with the people.

Speaking at a political rally, the Vihiga Senator made it clear he would not challenge the decision in court, signaling a deliberate shift in strategy. Instead, he declared his alignment with the emerging “Linda Mwananchi” faction, asserting that his leadership would continue outside formal party structures.

“I don’t need a title to lead,” Osotsi stated, framing his exit not as a defeat but as a repositioning within the evolving political landscape.

His remarks follow a decisive moment at the ODM Special Delegates Conference held at Jamhuri Grounds, where delegates dropped him as deputy party leader. In a dramatic turn, his nomination failed to attract both a proposer and a seconder—effectively shutting him out of the leadership race and underscoring shifting loyalties within the party.

The same convention endorsed Oburu Odinga as party leader, signaling a restructuring phase within ODM as it navigates internal divisions and prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Osotsi, however, did not hold back in his criticism of rival factions. He accused certain leaders of prioritizing personal ambitions over the party’s founding ideals, pointing to growing ideological fractures. He specifically referenced factions he labeled “Linda Ruto” and “Linda Ground,” suggesting that sections of the party had strayed from the original vision associated with Raila Odinga.

Despite the setback, Osotsi projected confidence, insisting his political base remains intact. He framed his removal as part of a broader power realignment within ODM—one that reflects deeper contestations over the party’s future direction.

In his view, the battle is no longer about positions, but about influence, ideology, and the ability to mobilize support ahead of 2027.
